Apple Updates Firmware for Magic Keyboard, Trackpad, and 140W Power Adapter

Apple Updates Firmware for Magic Keyboard, Trackpad, and 140W Power Adapter

Apple released new firmware for several of its accessories, and the list is longer than you might expect. You often update your iPhone or Mac, but you rarely think about your keyboard, trackpad, or even your power adapter getting new software. Today’s rollout changes that, as these accessories now run fresh firmware in the background.

The updates target the Magic Keyboard, Magic Trackpad, and the 140W USB-C Power Adapter.

Aaron Perris highlighted the rollout in a light post on X, pointing out how unusual it feels to see accessories like these receive updates. Even so, Apple pushed new versions across the lineup without offering detailed notes.

What’s new in these firmware updates

Apple did not explain what the new firmware changes are. Even so, history tells us these updates usually improve stability, fix bugs, or tighten security. You continue using your accessories as usual, and the update installs on its own as long as you keep the device paired to a Mac, iPad, iPhone, Apple TV, or Vision Pro. You rarely notice anything on the surface, but the accessories often work better behind the scenes.

  • Magic Keyboard (USB-C) now updates from version 3.1.4 to 3.1.9.
  • Magic Trackpad (USB-C) jumps from 3.1.3 to 3.1.9.
  • Magic Trackpad 2 moves from 3.1.1 to 3.1.8.
  • 140W USB-C Power Adapter upgrades from 1.4.73 to 1.4.84.

Why these updates matter

These are the first firmware updates for the new USB-C Magic Keyboard and Magic Trackpad that launched in October 2024. Apple rarely updates accessory firmware, so seeing multiple products receive new versions at once signals that Apple wants to refine performance and smooth out edge-case issues. The Magic Keyboard’s last update before this was more than a year ago.

You don’t need to press any button, start a download, or check a menu. The update installs while you type, click, or charge your device, and everything continues to work normally. Even if you never notice the change, your accessories now run the newest software Apple offers.
