iPhone users can now use AirDrop with Pixel phones

Google has announced a new way for you to share files between iPhone and Android. The system links AirDrop on Apple devices with Quick Share on the Pixel 10 lineup. As a result, you can move photos, videos, and documents across platforms without extra apps.

The feature works across iPhone, iPad, and Mac, and also on the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and Pixel 10 Fold. To receive a file from Android, you need to set AirDrop visibility to Everyone for 10 Minutes. After that, the incoming file appears just like a regular AirDrop request. You see the same notification and tap-to-accept option, so the process feels familiar and easy.

At the same time, a Pixel 10 user must enable the Everyone for 10 Minutes option or switch to Receive mode inside Quick Share. Once you accept the transfer, the file saves straight to the Files app. Google says Apple worked closely on this setup, and both sides kept security at the center. The system uses a secure peer-to-peer connection, meaning files move directly between devices and not through a server.

How the new sharing system stays secure

According to Google and Apple, this feature relies on multiple layers of protection. Each transfer requires your approval before it completes. In addition, both Android and iOS apply their built-in safety measures to block harmful content and verify device identity. You also see the sender’s device name before accepting the file, which helps you confirm the source.

Right now, the system only supports the Everyone for 10 Minutes AirDrop mode. However, Google says it wants to expand support to the Contacts Only option in the future. That step would add more control for private sharing while keeping the same smooth experience.

AirDrop and Quick Share interoperability is already rolling out to the Pixel 10 family. So now, when you need to send a file to someone using a different phone, you no longer need to worry about platform limits. You simply select the file, choose the nearby device, and complete the transfer in seconds.
