iOS 27 will be released on Monday, September 14, 2026, as a free update, Apple confirmed in the press release for today’s iPhone 18 Pro announcement. The headline addition is Siri AI, Apple’s new Siri, which launches in beta and in English only at first.

The date puts the update four days before the iPhone 18 Pro and AirPods 5 reach stores on September 18, and two days after iPhone 18 Pro pre-orders open on September 12.

Siri AI beta: what Apple has confirmed

Siri AI launches in beta in English. French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish follow in October. Apple Intelligence continues to run on-device and with Private Cloud Compute.

Siri AI also powers hands-free Siri on AirPods 5, which requires iOS 27 and an iPhone that supports Apple Intelligence. Apple has not published a list of qualifying iPhones in this release, and it has not said when Siri AI will leave beta.

Everything else coming in iOS 27

Apple’s release names four other additions:

  • Image Playground with photorealistic images
  • Safari “Notify Me”
  • iPhone Handoff, which Apple describes as carrier-dependent
  • Apple Reference Image, which stores an untouched original with verification metadata alongside edits so a photo can be shown to come from a real capture rather than AI

The release does not explain how Safari Notify Me or iPhone Handoff work, so the details will have to wait for Monday. Apple lists Apple Reference Image under both iOS 27 and the iPhone 18 Pro camera, and has not said whether it requires the new phones.

Nothing in the release covers macOS, watchOS or the other platforms, and Apple did not announce new Macs today, as we expected in our look at why there is no standard iPhone 18.

iOS 27 lands on Monday. For the full run of today’s announcements, from the iPhone 18 Pro to the iPhone Duo, see our Apple event live blog.
