iOS 26.2 May Fix The Keyboard Bugs Frustrating iPhone Users

iOS 26 turned the iPhone keyboard into a daily headache for many users. You miss letters, autocorrect ruins simple words, and sometimes you cannot even see what you are typing. Now iOS 26.2 looks set to calm things down, with early testers reporting a noticeably better typing experience.

At the center of the complaints sits the new keyboard behavior in iOS 26. People describe taps not registering, spacebar presses going missing, and sentences filling with random errors. Some even say they regret updating from iOS 18 because typing now feels slower and less reliable.

Slide to Type Becomes a Surprise Villain

Under iOS 26, one setting keeps coming up in user reports: ‘Slide to Type’. When you keep this option enabled, the keyboard often feels laggy and unresponsive. Many frustrated iPhone owners say the keyboard instantly becomes smoother once they disable slide typing in Settings.

You see similar feedback across different devices. Some users who never turned Slide to Type on still complain that the keyboard feels worse overall, while others without it enabled say the keyboard seems fine but autocorrect is still bad. That split only adds to the feeling that iOS 26 changed deeper keyboard behavior, not just one feature.

The Floating Bar And ā€œI Can’t See What I’m Typingā€

Another big problem involves the new floating bar that sits above the keyboard. When you type in some apps or websites, this bar can slide down and completely hide the text field. You then type blind, unable to see your message while you write.

Even worse, people report cases where the keyboard turns fully white over the letters, making the phone effectively unusable on the lock screen. When that happens, you cannot enter your passcode properly and risk getting locked out of your own device.

iOS 26.2 Matters For You

This is why many iPhone owners now pin their hopes on iOS 26.2. Early reports from testers suggest Apple is quietly tuning keyboard responsiveness and visual glitches. If those changes ship widely, you should see fewer missed taps, a more stable text field, and a keyboard that finally feels reliable again.

Until then, you can try a few workarounds. Turn off Slide to Type, check if the keyboard improves, and watch how often the floating bar blocks your text. If you already regret updating, iOS 26.2 may be the version that finally makes your keyboard feel like a tool again instead of a daily fight.

  • I thought I was going mad … this has been happening not only on the IPhone but even on the 12.9 iPad, where the keyboard is huge in comparison… it would be nice for Apple to admit there is an issue (I bet they get telemetry on the number of corrections going ) … either, let’s hope it’s fixed in 16.2 šŸ¤ž
