Apple Digital Key Expands as Porsche Activates Support for New EVs

Porsche is getting ready to bring full Apple Digital Key support to its next electric Cayenne and Macan models. The upgrade lets you unlock, lock, and start the vehicle with your iPhone or Apple Watch. The system uses NFC, Bluetooth Low Energy, and Ultra Wideband for secure access.

Moreover, the Digital Key stored in Apple Wallet keeps working even when your iPhone runs out of battery. This gives you a backup layer of access without any extra steps. Owners will also share the key with up to seven people, which helps families and shared drivers.

Later, Apple highlighted Porsche as an upcoming partner while explaining the next version of Car Key at WWDC. This placed Porsche on the roadmap for broader Digital Key adoption across premium vehicles.

Backend Support Now Live

Now, a recent discovery from Macrumors shows that Apple has already enabled the required backend infrastructure. This shifts the rollout responsibility to Porsche. As a result, the company only needs to activate the feature on its side to make it available for customers.

Furthermore, Porsche will offer Digital Key support on 2026 model year electric Cayenne and Macan units under the Comfort Access package. The launch appears close as all technical pieces are ready.
