Apple has released macOS 15.7.4 Release Candidate and macOS 14.8.4 Release Candidate, giving testers a near-final look at the next maintenance updates for Sequoia and Sonoma. The macOS 15.7.4 RC carries build number 24G503, while the macOS 14.8.4 RC uses build number 23J305.
Release Candidate builds usually land when Apple believes an update is close to ready for public release. In most cases, these builds focus on stability, bug fixes, and security work rather than new headline features.

How to update
- Open System Settings on your Mac.
- Go to General.
- Select Software Update.
- If you are enrolled in Apple’s beta program, you should see the macOS 15.7.4 RC or macOS 14.8.4 RC update, depending on what your Mac supports.
Before you install, back up your Mac. RC builds are late-stage, but they are still pre-release software.
What changes in this update cycle
Apple has not positioned these RCs as feature drops. Instead, they look like routine maintenance releases aimed at polishing recent versions, especially as Apple also begins testing the broader 26.3 generation across platforms.
If you install either RC, watch for the usual signs of a maintenance release: smoother performance in day-to-day apps, fewer background glitches, and security-related fixes that do not always show up as visible UI changes.
