OpenAI has announced two major updates to ChatGPT. The company is rolling out its lower-priced ChatGPT Go plan worldwide, including the United States, and it will soon begin testing ads in certain ChatGPT tiers for U.S. users.
ChatGPT Go Is Now Available Worldwide
OpenAI first launched ChatGPT Go in India last year. Since then, it expanded the plan to more than 170 countries. Starting today, ChatGPT Go is available everywhere ChatGPT operates, including the U.S., priced at $8 per month.

With this launch, ChatGPT now offers three subscription tiers worldwide:
- ChatGPT Go: $8 per month
- ChatGPT Plus: $20 per month
- ChatGPT Pro: $200 per month
ChatGPT Go sits between the free plan and ChatGPT Plus. It offers more flexibility without the higher price of advanced tiers.
What You Get With ChatGPT Go
Compared to the free plan, ChatGPT Go includes:
- 10 times more messages, file uploads, and image generation
- Access to GPT-5.2 Instant without tight usage limits
- A longer memory and context window, allowing ChatGPT to remember more about you over time
Tasks that require deeper reasoning still need ChatGPT Plus or ChatGPT Pro, which include access to GPT-5.2 Thinking.
Ads Are Coming to Free and Go Tiers in the U.S.
Alongside the Go expansion, OpenAI confirmed it will begin testing ads in ChatGPT in the United States. The test will apply only to logged-in adult users on the free tier and ChatGPT Go. Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise plans will remain ad-free.
OpenAI shared details about how ads will work in a blog post published today.
“To start, we plan to test ads at the bottom of answers in ChatGPT when there’s a relevant sponsored product or service based on your current conversation. Ads will be clearly labeled and separated from the organic answer.”
OpenAI also said users will be able to see why an ad appears and dismiss it if they choose.
Privacy and Content Limits
OpenAI stated that ads will not influence ChatGPT’s answers. Conversations will not be shared with advertisers, and the company said it will never sell user data.
Ads will not appear in conversations involving sensitive or regulated topics, including health, mental health, and politics. Accounts identified as belonging to users under 18 will also not see ads.
“Ads support our commitment to making AI accessible to everyone by helping us keep ChatGPT available at free and affordable price points.”
OpenAI stated that it will refine the ad experience based on feedback, while maintaining at least one paid tier that remains fully ad-free at all times.
