Spotify Brings Better Song Transitions to Premium Users

Spotify May Let You Edit Your 'Taste Profile' With Written Notes

Spotify has introduced a new Smart Reorder feature that helps Premium users improve transitions between songs in their playlists. The update automatically rearranges tracks based on beats per minute and musical key so songs with similar speed and tone play back to back, which keeps the flow smooth and consistent throughout the playlist.

The feature builds on Spotify’s earlier tools that let Premium users adjust transition points between tracks. Since that rollout, listeners have streamed more than 220 million hours of mixed playlists, showing strong demand for better control over how songs connect and play in sequence.

In a recent announcement, Spotify explained how the feature works and what it aims to improve.

ā€œWith one tap, this upgrade gives Premium users an easy way to rearrange mixed playlists with BPM and key. This helps your tracks flow even more seamlessly, never missing a beat.ā€

Spotify says users can activate Smart Reorder in two simple steps:

  • Tap Mix on a playlist
  • Tap Edit and select Smart Reorder

Once enabled, the system reorganizes tracks automatically using BPM and key data to create smoother transitions without manual sorting. As a result, playlists feel more cohesive, especially when users want continuous energy during workouts, parties, or long listening sessions.

Spotify also encourages users to explore its Mixed By hub, where artists curate playlists that highlight creative transitions and dynamic track sequencing.

With Smart Reorder, Spotify continues to focus on refining how songs connect, giving Premium users more control while keeping the process simple and fast.
