Netflix has acquired InterPositive, a filmmaking technology company founded by actor and filmmaker Ben Affleck. The company builds AI-powered tools designed for filmmakers. The move shows Netflix wants to strengthen its in-house technology that supports film and television production.
Netflix announced the deal in an official statement. The company did not disclose financial details, but the acquisition is much smaller than Netflix’s recent interest in Warner Bros. Discovery or HBO Max.
Netflix focuses on creator-led AI tools
Netflix said the goal is to develop technology that supports filmmakers rather than replace them.
“Today, Netflix, Inc. announced the acquisition of InterPositive, the filmmaking technology company founded by Ben Affleck that develops AI-powered tools built by and for filmmakers. InterPositive’s mission to use emerging technology in ways that protect and expand creative choice is deeply aligned with Netflix’s long-standing belief that innovation should serve storytellers and the creative process.”
The company also confirmed that the entire InterPositive team will join Netflix. Ben Affleck will take on a new role as Senior Advisor.
“By bringing InterPositive’s entire team into Netflix through this acquisition, and with Affleck joining as Senior Advisor, we’re investing in creator-led innovation that keeps filmmakers at the center of the process.”
AI in film production continues to grow
InterPositive does not build tools that generate full films from simple text prompts. Instead, the company focuses on improving parts of the production and post-production workflow.
These tools help filmmakers handle technical steps more efficiently. At the same time, Netflix’s move signals a wider shift across the industry.
Streaming companies continue to explore AI technology. As a result, other major platforms may follow Netflix and invest in similar tools to improve production workflows.
