Apple Announces Sydney Opera House Creativity Partnership

Apple and the Sydney Opera House have announced a yearlong collaboration to support Australian creativity. The partnership focuses on art, design, and culture while giving young people more opportunities to explore creative work. The program will include workshops, public activities, and new experiences at the Opera House’s Centre for Creativity.

The collaboration begins with a large projection artwork called Illuminating Creativity. From March 25 to March 27, the eastern Bennelong sails of the Sydney Opera House will display digital artworks created on iPad using the Procreate app. Ten emerging Australian artists created the pieces that will appear in the projection.

Members of the public can also take part in the project. From March 9 to March 15, Apple will host free Today at Apple sessions across Australia. Participants will create digital artwork on iPad and submit their work for a chance to appear in the final projection.

The partnership will also support interactive programs for young people. Apple will become the founding partner of a new international children’s festival that the Sydney Opera House will host later this year.

The collaboration will also strengthen programs at the Opera House’s Centre for Creativity, a space designed for hands-on creative participation.

Louise Herron, CEO of the Sydney Opera House, said:

“The Sydney Opera House, like Apple, is synonymous with creativity. This collaboration is a natural fit between two organisations that continue to search for new ways for people to experience the world.”

Apple says the project highlights its long history of supporting creative work.

Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, said:

“The yearlong collaboration with the Sydney Opera House and Illuminating Creativity is a celebration of this legacy.”

The projection will feature selected artworks from commissioned artists and public submissions. The final display will appear at 8:30 p.m. on March 25 and at 8:00 p.m. on March 26 and March 27.
