iPhone 19e Could Feature LTPO Display with ProMotion Technology

Display Analyst Ross Young Says iPhone 18 Pro Will Keep the Dynamic Island

Apple’s more affordable iPhone line could be in line for a meaningful display upgrade. New reports suggest the upcoming iPhone 19e may feature an LTPO OLED panel with ProMotion support. If accurate, this would bring a smoother scrolling experience and improved power efficiency to a device category that has traditionally used more basic screens.

For years, Apple has reserved high refresh rate displays for its premium models. That thinking may finally be shifting.

Apple may bring LTPO and promotion to the affordable lineup

According to supply chain reports, the iPhone 19e (or iPhone 20e) could adopt the same LTPO display technology used in higher-end iPhones. LTPO panels allow the screen’s refresh rate to dynamically adjust depending on what is happening on the display.

Most non-Pro iPhones still use a fixed 60Hz refresh rate. That means scrolling, animations, and gaming are noticeably less smooth compared with Pro models that support ProMotion and can reach 120Hz. An LTPO display changes that equation. The technology allows the refresh rate to scale anywhere from very low levels, sometimes as low as 1Hz, up to higher refresh rates when needed.

This improves battery efficiency because the screen only refreshes as quickly as required. Reports suggest Apple could use a panel similar to the one found in the iPhone 17, which already uses LTPO technology in the Pro lineup. If that happens, the iPhone 19e would gain one of the most noticeable visual upgrades users can experience.

What this could mean for Apple’s iPhone strategy

Apple has historically separated its standard and Pro models with clear hardware differences. High refresh rate displays have been one of the biggest dividing lines. That gap may be narrowing. Bringing ProMotion to the iPhone 19e would make Apple’s entry-level lineup more competitive with Android devices that already offer high refresh rate screens at lower prices.

Apple could be gradually standardizing advanced display technology across more of its iPhone lineup. The move would also reflect broader trends in the smartphone industry. High refresh rate displays are quickly becoming the norm rather than a premium feature.

If the reports prove accurate, the iPhone 19e may deliver a noticeably smoother visual experience without moving into the higher price tier typically associated with Apple’s Pro models. In the meantime, we can only hope for what Apple has in store for the iPhone 18 lineup later this year.
