Apple plans to expand Siri’s AI capabilities in iOS 27 by allowing third-party chatbots like Gemini and Claude to work directly with the assistant, giving users more control over how their queries get handled while also reducing Apple’s reliance on a single AI partner.
Bloomberg reports that Apple will introduce a new “Extensions” system that lets AI apps connect with Siri, so if you have apps like Claude or Gemini installed, Siri can route your questions to those services in the same way it currently works with ChatGPT.
“Apple Inc. plans to open Siri to outside artificial intelligence assistants, a major move aimed at bolstering the iPhone as an AI platform.”
Siri Extensions will let you choose your AI
Apple will add a dedicated Extensions menu inside the Apple Intelligence and Siri settings, where you can pick which chatbot you want Siri to use, and the system will also guide you to download supported apps from the App Store.
This setup gives you more flexibility since you will no longer depend only on ChatGPT, and you can switch between services based on your needs, whether you prefer Gemini for search-heavy queries or Claude for longer responses.
At the same time, developers must update their apps to support this feature, so availability will depend on how quickly companies roll out compatibility with iOS 27.
Works across iPhone, iPad, and Mac
Apple plans to bring this system across iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27, which means your preferred AI chatbot will stay consistent across devices, and the integration will also extend to Apple’s upcoming standalone Siri app and broader Apple Intelligence features.
The current ChatGPT integration will remain, but OpenAI will lose its exclusive position once Apple opens Siri to more providers, which aligns with earlier reports that Apple wanted to support multiple AI partners instead of locking into a single deal.
Apple is also working on a deeper Siri overhaul that turns the assistant into a more advanced chatbot, and reports suggest the company is testing versions powered by Google’s Gemini models for internal features.
Alongside that, Apple plans to announce these changes at WWDC 2026 on June 8, where it will unveil iOS 27 and detail how Siri will evolve into a more flexible AI hub.
This shift also opens new revenue opportunities for Apple since AI companies can offer subscriptions through the App Store, and users will get more choice in how they interact with Siri going forward.
