New AirTag Firmware Makes Unwanted Trackers Easier to Detect and Locate

AirTag 2 Facts You Should Know Before Upgrading

Apple has released a new AirTag firmware update that focuses on improving user safety by making it easier to detect unknown tracking devices, and the change directly targets one of the most important anti-stalking features built into AirTag.

The update, labeled AirTag Firmware Update 3.0.45, introduces a refined sound alert that plays when an unknown AirTag is detected moving with someone, and Apple says this updated tone helps users locate the device more easily during Precision Finding.

Updated sound improves unwanted tracking detection

Apple introduced anti-stalking protections after reports showed AirTag misuse for unwanted tracking, and since then, the company has added alerts, notifications, and sound cues to help people identify nearby AirTags they do not own.

With AirTag 2, Apple upgraded the built-in speaker and made it up to 50 percent louder, and this latest firmware builds on that improvement by adjusting how the alert sound behaves so it stands out better in real-world environments.

Firmware update includes

  • Updated unwanted tracking sound for easier detection
  • Improved Precision Finding support for unknown AirTags
  • General bug fixes and performance improvements

Apple has not shared exact technical details about how the sound has changed, but the update clearly aims to help users find unwanted AirTags faster and with less confusion, especially in situations where safety matters most.
