According to Feral Interactive, the base game includes three expansions: Lords of the West, Dynasties of India, and Dawn of the Dukes. These expansions add new civilizations, campaigns, and gameplay content for both new and returning players.

The Mac version includes single-player campaigns based on historical leaders, Skirmish mode with support for up to eight opponents, and multiplayer options for online and offline play. Players can also join cooperative campaigns with other Mac users and experience historical scenarios together.

Additional DLC packs are available, including The Last Chieftains, which features campaigns inspired by medieval history and folklore across South America. The launch gives Mac users access to the complete Age of Empires II experience without needing a Windows machine.
