Tom Holland recently opened up about why his version of Spider-Man has not crossed paths with Tom Hardy and his popular Venom character yet. Even though both actors made quick cameo appearances in the credits of each other’s recent films, a full meeting on the big screen never took place. Now, the main star is shedding more light on what really happened behind the scenes at Sony.
Timing issues kept the two popular comic characters apart
During a recent chat on the Happy Sad Confused podcast with Josh Horowitz, Tom Holland shared some details about the missed opportunity. He explained that there were definitely talks about bringing the two movie universes together. Sony movie boss Tom Rothman had a vision to merge the worlds at some point. The studio simply struggled to find the right moment to make it happen.

Holland mentioned that a crossover was always on the table as a future goal. But like many projects in the movie business, the plans just never turned into a real film. He also noted that because the core Marvel movies and his own solo films were doing so well, the studio leaders decided it was best to stay on their current path instead of rushing a massive team-up.
Fans who still want to see the web-slinger fight the alien monster should not give up hope just yet. Holland mirrored recent comments from Marvel boss Kevin Feige, suggesting that anything is possible down the road.
With Spider-Man: Brand New Day currently playing in theaters, the future of the hero remains wide open for new adventures.
