Apple could give the iPhone 18 Pro Max one of its biggest battery upgrades in years, with a new leak pointing to a 5,391mAh battery for the Chinese model and an even larger 5,567mAh battery for the U.S. version.
The reported 5,391mAh capacity would represent an increase of 568mAh compared with the 4,823mAh battery used in the Chinese iPhone 17 Pro Max, which works out to nearly 12% more capacity.

A photo shared on Naver reportedly shows an iPhone 18 Pro Max battery pack carrying the same 5,391mAh rating, while the image is said to have originally appeared on Weibo. The same capacity also appeared in a regulatory database last month, giving the figure additional support.
| Model | China Battery | Change |
|---|---|---|
| iPhone 16 Pro Max | 4,685mAh | +244mAh |
| iPhone 17 Pro Max | 4,823mAh | +138mAh |
| iPhone 18 Pro Max | 5,391mAh | +568mAh |
U.S. iPhone 18 Pro Max could get an even larger battery
The U.S. version reportedly carries a 5,567mAh battery, up from 5,088mAh in the iPhone 17 Pro Max, which represents an increase of around 9.4%. Apple has more internal space available on U.S. models because they use eSIM instead of a physical SIM card tray.
The smaller iPhone 18 Pro appears set for a much smaller battery increase, with the U.S. model reportedly moving from 4,252mAh to 4,288mAh, an increase of only 36mAh.
| Model | China | U.S. |
|---|---|---|
| iPhone 17 Pro | 3,988mAh | 4,252mAh |
| iPhone 18 Pro | 4,056mAh | 4,288mAh |
| iPhone 17 Pro Max | 4,823mAh | 5,088mAh |
| iPhone 18 Pro Max | 5,391mAh | 5,567mAh |
The larger jump for the Pro Max also fits earlier reports that Apple plans to make the iPhone 18 Pro Max thicker than the smaller Pro model, giving the company more room for additional battery capacity.
