Apple is reportedly preparing a new iMac powered by the M6 chip, with updated color options also expected as part of the refresh. The new model should arrive before the end of 2026, giving Apple’s all-in-one desktop its first major chip update since the M4 version launched in 2024.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that Apple plans to introduce the M6 iMac with “some new color options,” although he did not detail which shades the company has selected. Apple kept seven colors with the M4 iMac but adjusted several shades, so the next update may follow a similar approach while refreshing the overall lineup.
The iMac has followed a slower upgrade cycle than other Macs, as Apple skipped both the M2 and M5 chip generations for the desktop. Apple has also continued selling only the 24-inch model, while users looking for larger desktop setups have had to pair a Mac mini or Mac Studio with an external display.

M6 iMac could join a busy Mac lineup
The upcoming M6 chip should become Apple’s first Mac processor built on a 2nm manufacturing process, which should bring improvements in performance and efficiency over the current M4 generation.
Apple is also reportedly preparing several other Mac updates for the same period, including redesigned MacBook Pro models with touchscreen Tandem OLED displays, a base 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6, and new Mac Studio configurations with M5 Max and M5 Ultra chips.
A refreshed Mac mini also remains under consideration, although that model is expected later. Apple reportedly plans to move quickly toward the M7 family after the standard M6 chip, with no M6 Pro, M6 Max, or M6 Ultra variants currently expected.
