OpenAI has introduced a new ChatGPT Admin plugin that lets workspace administrators manage users, permissions, usage limits, and reporting directly from ChatGPT Work and Codex. The plugin gives admins a conversational way to handle routine workspace tasks without moving between separate admin tools.
OpenAI says the Admin plugin works within the permissions already assigned to each administrator, which means users can only access or change settings allowed by their existing account role. Admins can review workspace activity, analyze credit usage, manage members and groups, and check which teams are approaching usage limits.

The Admin plugin also allows workspace administrators to update feature and model access based on roles or groups, investigate permission problems, and handle onboarding or offboarding tasks. Admins can also adjust usage limits, review spending requests, and approve or reject those requests after checking current activity.

OpenAI demonstrated the plugin with a monthly AI rollout review, where an administrator asked ChatGPT Work to compare adoption and credit usage across teams over the previous 30 days. The conversation then continued with additional breakdowns, charts, usage-request approvals, and a presentation summarizing the findings.
The demo also showed ChatGPT creating the presentation and sharing it to a Slack channel, giving administrators a way to move from workspace analysis to internal reporting within the same workflow.
OpenAI says organizations can also use the Admin plugin for recurring administrative tasks and internal IT operations while keeping existing workspace controls in place.
The ChatGPT Admin plugin is now available through the Plugins directory in ChatGPT Work and can also be used with Codex.
