Paramount Skydance’s planned acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery is reportedly bringing a shorter corporate identity with it. The combined company is expected to operate as Skydance after the transaction closes, while its familiar studio and streaming brands continue under the larger business.

Axios reports that the new parent company will use the Skydance name. That branding detail has not appeared in the companies’ latest closing announcement, so it remains reported information rather than a formally disclosed corporate change.

Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery said in an official investor release that they expect the merger to close on October 6, 2026, subject to customary closing conditions. Paramount agreed in February to buy Warner Bros. Discovery for $31 per share in cash, valuing the transaction at an enterprise value of $110 billion.

What the name change means for viewers

The reported Skydance name would identify the parent company, not automatically erase HBO, Warner Bros., CBS, Paramount Pictures, Paramount+ or HBO Max. Paramount has described the deal as bringing its film, television, news, sports, gaming and streaming operations together with Warner Bros. Discovery’s portfolio.

That distinction matters for subscribers. A new corporate name does not by itself confirm that Paramount+ and HBO Max will immediately become one app, share one price or use one catalog. MacObserver previously covered the court challenge that temporarily blocked the deal, but the companies now say the transaction is approaching its expected closing date.

Paramount has said the combined portfolio will include franchises such as Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, Mission: Impossible, Top Gun, DC and SpongeBob SquarePants. Decisions about app branding, subscription tiers and the future of individual services will need separate announcements. For now, the confirmed milestone is the expected October 6 closing, while the Skydance corporate name comes from reporting rather than the companies’ public release.
