Apple Drops Intel Mac Support From Magic Mouse and Magic Trackpad Compatibility Lists

Apple has removed Intel-based Macs from the model-by-model compatibility lists shown for its USB-C Magic Mouse and Magic Trackpad. The change narrows the devices Apple explicitly names, but it does not establish that the accessories have stopped working with Intel Macs.

Apple’s current Magic Mouse product page lists a Mac running macOS 15.1 or later as the system requirement. The corresponding Magic Trackpad page uses the same Mac requirement, while the detailed compatibility sections now name Apple silicon models rather than Intel Macs.

That distinction matters. macOS 15.1 runs on several Intel Macs, and both accessories use standard Bluetooth connections. Owners should therefore read the edited list as a documentation change, not proof of a new technical block.

What Intel Mac owners should check

Apple still says the USB-C versions require macOS 15.1 or later. An Intel Mac that cannot run that release falls outside the published system requirement, while a compatible Intel Mac may continue pairing normally even though its model is no longer named.

The Mac Observer has a guide to connecting a Magic Mouse to a Mac if an existing pairing needs to be restored. Apple has not announced a firmware cutoff or a hardware change tied to the revised list.

Anyone buying for an older Mac should verify its exact macOS ceiling before ordering. The product pages are clear about the operating-system requirement, but the missing Intel entries make Apple’s model-level guidance less complete than it was previously.

Apple may update the list again as its Mac lineup changes. Until then, the operating-system requirement is the clearest published compatibility test for an Intel Mac.
