Years later, Vision (Paul Bettany) lives in Edinburgh under the name Sherwood Ellis, working at a local pub. His employer, Fiona Guthrie, regularly invites him to Sunday dinner, although he struggles to understand ordinary human relationships.

Despite having his previous self’s memories, Vision cannot fully experience the emotions associated with them.

Inside his mind, he has created a digital mansion inhabited by several artificial intelligence personalities, including J.A.R.V.I.S., F.R.I.D.A.Y., E.D.I.T.H., D.U.M.-E., and U.

According to Disney’s official explanation of the series, these AI personalities help Vision understand humanity while he searches for his identity.

However, another familiar intelligence lives upstairs.

Ultron Returns and Betrays Vision

James Spader returns as Ultron, who exists within Vision’s programming and occupies the mansion’s attic.

Vision frequently watches recordings of his former life, particularly memories involving Wanda and their family. However, he becomes angry when his AI companions show him footage from Westview.

Ultron believes Vision is avoiding his past and challenges his attempts to remain isolated.

Eventually, Ultron secretly sends information about Vision’s location into the outside world, exposing his hiding place to people searching for him.

The consequences arrive almost immediately.

Who Attacks Vision at the Pub?

While Vision is working at the pub, armed attackers arrive and fatally shoot Fiona.

Vision responds with overwhelming force, eliminating the gunmen before escaping the building in his synthezoid form.

The attack introduces Paladin (Todd Stashwick), a bounty hunter working for an unidentified client.

After confronting Ultron, Vision discovers that the villain deliberately leaked his location. However, Ultron claims he does not know who originally placed the bounty.

The attack also reveals how much White Vision has changed. He handles the attackers with a level of brutality that contrasts with the compassion associated with his earlier identity.

As TVLine’s premiere coverage explains, Vision’s emotional distance remains central to his struggle with his reconstructed identity.

VisionQuest Episode 1 Ending Explained: Is Tommy Maximoff Alive?

The final scenes introduce Thomas Shepherd (Ruaridh Mollica), who is living in London and participating in a scam with his friend Lisa.

When Tommy sees news coverage involving Vision, he experiences troubling flashes of memories connected to Westview.

Meanwhile, Paladin investigates Vision’s past and discovers records of Wanda and Vision’s twin sons, Billy and Tommy.

His investigation leads him to London, where he captures Thomas.

Paladin then contacts Vision through his digital mindscape and announces that he has his son.

Vision struggles to understand how Tommy could still exist after Wanda ended the magical reality of Westview. Ultron responds by congratulating him, bringing the episode to an unsettling conclusion.

The ending establishes Tommy as a central part of Vision’s journey, although the episode leaves the full explanation of his existence unresolved.

What Does Ultron Actually Want?

Ultron claims that forcing Vision out of isolation will help him confront his identity, but his decision to expose Vision directly leads to Fiona’s death.

His actions suggest that he wants greater influence over Vision’s decisions, particularly when it comes to his memories of Wanda and his family.

Another important detail is the mansion itself. Vision has created a controlled environment where he can examine human emotions without experiencing the uncertainty of real relationships.

By revealing Vision’s location, Ultron destroys that sense of security.

The premiere also leaves several mysteries unanswered, including the identity of Paladin’s employer and the reason someone wants Vision captured.

With Tommy now involved, Vision must confront the possibility that the family he remembers still has a place in his life.

VisionQuest Episodes 1 and 2 are available on Disney+, with the eight-episode Marvel series continuing weekly through November 10, 2026.
