Why Does Harry Gather the Harrigans in the Cotswolds?

The episode begins with the consequences of Conrad Harrigan’s latest attack on Frankie Cooper. After Conrad and Paul capture and torture one of Frankie’s men, Harry realizes that the conflict is moving toward an all-out war.

Harry brings the family together at their Cotswolds estate, hoping to keep everyone under control while they prepare for retaliation. However, Conrad remains confident about his position, while Maeve continues pursuing her own plans.

Maeve initially refuses to cooperate with Harry’s meeting. Her behavior becomes even more suspicious as she continues plotting against Seraphina, whom she has been trying to poison with antifreeze.

Conrad eventually discovers the antifreeze and confronts Maeve, although she manages to manipulate him into backing down. Their conversation shows how easily Maeve can influence Conrad, even when he has reasons to question her loyalty.

Why Does Maeve Send Eddie and Gina to Ireland?

Meanwhile, Eddie and Gina arrive in Ireland, where Maeve has secretly arranged a dangerous assignment.

Eddie eventually reveals that Maeve wants him to assassinate a criminal known as Medusa, played by Colm Meaney. The gangster earns his nickname through his connection to concrete and his reputation for burying enemies.

Gina immediately recognizes the danger and refuses to participate. She leaves Eddie behind and attempts to contact her mother, Jan, although the call goes unanswered.

Eddie proceeds with the mission but quickly loses control of the situation. Medusa captures him and prepares to torture him with a heated metal poker.

Gina returns and tries to intervene, placing herself in danger as well.

Paul, meanwhile, overhears Maeve discussing the mission with Eddie and informs Harry. Realizing what is happening, Harry takes a helicopter to Ireland and arrives before Medusa can finish the attack.

He kills Medusa and his armed men, rescuing both Gina and Eddie.

Harry’s intervention raises another question about Maeve’s intentions. She knowingly sent Eddie into an extremely dangerous situation, suggesting that the mission served a larger purpose beyond eliminating Medusa. However, the episode leaves her exact reasoning unresolved.

What Happens During Frankie’s Attack on the Harrigan Estate?

While Harry is occupied in Ireland, Frankie Cooper makes his move against the Harrigans.

Frankie arrives at the Cotswolds estate with heavily armed men and launches a surprise assault. Without Harry coordinating their defense, the family struggles to respond effectively.

Gunfire erupts around the property as Frankie’s men storm the estate. Conrad, Kevin, Maeve, and the others find themselves fighting to survive rather than defending their criminal empire.

Despite the scale of the attack, the main Harrigan family members manage to escape. Paul also survives, and the group retreats using helicopters while Frankie destroys their stronghold.

As Forbes’ episode review observes, the attack exposes serious weaknesses in the Harrigans’ security, particularly when Harry is absent.

MobLand Season 2 Episode 5 Ending Explained

The ending leaves the Harrigans alive but in a much weaker position.

Frankie has successfully attacked their home and forced them to retreat, while Harry’s decision to rescue Gina and Eddie means he was unavailable when the family needed him.

This creates another potential conflict with Maeve, who has repeatedly questioned Harry’s loyalty.

Although Harry successfully completed the rescue mission, Maeve could use his absence during Frankie’s attack to turn Conrad against him. That remains a possibility rather than a confirmed development.

Elsewhere, Jan discovers an important clue about Donnie, the man secretly connected to Kat McAllister’s surveillance operation.

After Harry warns her that someone recorded her, Jan becomes suspicious of Donnie and arranges another meeting. She notices a missed call from Seraphina on his phone, supporting Harry’s warning that Donnie has connections to people working against the family.

The discovery also raises new concerns about Seraphina, who has been maintaining a secret relationship with Kat while presenting herself as loyal to the Harrigans.

Ultimately, “Birdland” shows how Conrad and Maeve’s reckless decisions have weakened the family’s position. Harry continues protecting them, but his ability to manage every threat is becoming increasingly limited.

With Frankie gaining ground and Kat’s influence growing, the second half of Season 2 promises further conflict.
