Determined to uncover the killer’s motives, Vision works with Ultron to access Interpol’s records. Their investigation reveals that the victims belonged to a research team responsible for developing early synthetic consciousness technology, which Stark Industries later acquired.
The team also discovers that the killer has been collecting biometric information from her victims, including blood, fingerprints, and an eye. Their findings lead them to Katerina Wells, the final surviving researcher, who is attending a charity gala.
With his powers weakened, Vision recruits Thomas and Lisa to help him enter the event.
Who Is Butcherbird in VisionQuest Episode 4?
The gala reveals that Butcherbird is Jocasta, a powerful synthetic whose appearance resembles a female version of Ultron.
Her identity connects directly to Dr. Josephine Carrington, a researcher who supposedly died years earlier. However, Jocasta explains that she possesses Carrington’s consciousness rather than simply copying her personality.
This discovery makes her revenge against the surviving researchers more personal, especially given her anger over what happened during the original experiments.
The episode also explores how Tony Stark modeled his artificial intelligences after real people. As GamesRadar+ explains, E.D.I.T.H. learns that her personality came from Edith Marks, a courageous test pilot who experienced considerable personal loss.
VisionQuest Episode 4 Ending Explained: Why Does Ultron Betray Vision?
When Jocasta attacks the gala, Thomas uses his super-speed to save Katerina, while Vision struggles to fight the stronger synthetic.
Unable to defeat her, Vision makes a dangerous decision and allows Ultron to control his body.
Ultron immediately turns the situation against him. He manipulates Jocasta into killing Katerina before locking Vision and the other artificial intelligences inside their digital mind.
With Vision trapped and Jocasta escaping, Ultron gains complete control of Vision’s physical body, setting up a major confrontation for the remaining episodes.
The ending also highlights Vision’s growing conflict over identity and trust. Earlier, Thomas discovers that Vision has secretly been communicating with Ultron, damaging their developing father-son relationship.
That deception becomes particularly important when Vision gives Ultron the freedom he needs to betray him.
