Apple’s Next Touchscreen MacBook Pro to Get M7 Pro and M7 Max Chips Next Year, Report Says

Apple is already preparing its second-generation touchscreen MacBook Pro models for 2027, with new M7 Pro and M7 Max chips expected to introduce additional AI hardware capabilities. The company also plans to bring the redesigned chassis and slimmer display bezels to its entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman in his latest Power On newsletter, the upcoming models will build on the first touchscreen MacBook Pros, which Apple unveiled on October 28 with OLED displays, Dynamic Island, and M5 Pro and M5 Max processors.

M7 Pro and M7 Max to Bring New AI Hardware

Gurman reports that Apple plans to introduce the next-generation high-end MacBook Pros in 2027, with the M7 Pro and M7 Max chips bringing new hardware capabilities designed for artificial intelligence workloads.

The processors are expected to improve on-device AI performance, although Apple has yet to reveal their architecture, technical specifications, or the specific features they will support.

The company is also reportedly skipping M6 Pro and M6 Max processors, moving directly from the existing M5 Pro and M5 Max chips to the M7 generation.

Entry-Level M7 MacBook Pro Will Get a Redesign

Apple is separately developing an entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro powered by the standard M7 chip, which will adopt the thinner and lighter design and slimmer bezels introduced with the premium OLED models.

The change will bring the more affordable model closer to Apple’s redesigned professional laptops. However, there is no confirmation that the entry-level version will receive OLED technology or touchscreen support.

Apple recently introduced the 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6, retaining the familiar chassis and Liquid Retina XDR display.

The M7 Pro and M7 Max models are expected toward the end of 2027, while the standard M7 MacBook Pro is also planned for next year. Apple has not announced official release dates or pricing for either refresh.
