Cuban 3G Service
Mayra Arevich, president of the country’s state telecom company, announced that the Cuban 3G service will launch on Thursday. Although state-owned internet cafes have been open since 2013, and public Wi-Fi hotspots since 2015, there hasn’t been a cellular service yet.
However, the data packages available will range from 600MB at about £5.50 to 4GB for about £23.60. Meanwhile, the average monthly salary for Cubans is between £15 and £23.
One Havana resident, Joaquin Montiel, welcomed the development but said it would still be too pricey for him. “It was about time this became a possibility for Cubans too,” he told ABC News. “But for some, like me, it’s still a remote one.”
