iPhone loyalty reached 87% in the first quarter of 2026, showing that more existing users stayed with Apple compared with the same period last year. The latest figures also show that Android users continue to make up only a small share of new iPhone buyers in the United States.
CIRP found that 12% of people who bought an iPhone during the March 2026 quarter previously owned an Android smartphone. Another 1% came from feature phones, smaller smartphone platforms, or purchased a smartphone for the first time.

The remaining 87% already owned an iPhone, marking a three-point increase from the 84% loyalty rate recorded during the first quarter of 2025. During that period, 14% of new iPhone buyers had switched from Android.
Most smartphone users remain loyal
CIRP has tracked buyer movement between iPhone and Android for several years by asking customers which phone they owned before their latest purchase. Recent results show that Android switchers usually account for between 11% and 15% of new iPhone buyers.
The figures suggest that most smartphone owners chose their preferred platform years ago and now have little reason to switch. Apple’s planned Siri AI upgrade in iOS 27 could help retain current users, while its expected foldable iPhone may attract some Android foldable owners.
