Jimmy Fallon Plays 'Stranger Strings' with the Kids from Stranger Things

· · Cool Stuff Found

It’s no secret we’re obsessed with Stranger Things here at TMO. Then Adam Christianson dropped a note in Slack about Jimmy Fallon playing a game called Stranger Strings with the child actors in the show. It involves lots of Silly String, of course. Oh, and it includes Millie Bobby Brown rapping Nicki Minaj’s verse in “Monsters.” And she’s a Spanish-born Brit. Who knew? All the kids are great, though, so enjoy. And for those on #TeamBarb, there’s also a Jimmy Fallon sketch where Barb comes back to confront the kids while they’re playing “Virgins & Dragons.” It’s also entertaining.

The 'Official' BINGO Card for Apple's September 7th Media Event

· · Cool Stuff Found

Dr. Andrew Leavitt has posted the “Official BINGO Card for the Fall 2016 Apple Special Event.” It’s awesome. Each square has an event, quote, quip, or note you can expect. Things like, “Snarky Android burn in reference to¬†iOS adoption rates,” or, “Doubling down on something or another.” There are also most serious squares for specific new features that are rumored. It’s quite funny and an excellent roundup of both expectations and rumors. The first person to get five in a row or column wins. Dr. Leavitt posted a PDF version of the image in case you want to print it and play for real. ūüėā

Every Apple Keynote Since 1997 at a Glance

· · Cool Stuff Found

Check out NotesKey‚ÄĒI love this site. It has every Apple keynote event since 1997 laid out in an easy-to-grasp table. Each¬†year is laid out by month, and each keynote event is represented with an icon¬†that immediately conjures up memories of that event. The earlier ones¬†use images from moments in the keynote, while recent years use the images Apple sent out in media invitations. It’s brilliant, useful, immediately made me realize Apple used to hold a lot more keynote events than it does today thanks to the now-defunct Macworld Expo.¬†To the creators of¬†NotesKey, nice job!

Apple Updates HP Printer Drivers

HP OfficeJet 4610

Apple released new OS X printer drivers for HP printers on Tuesday titled¬†“HP Printer Drivers v5.0 for OS X.”¬†The patch notes for the update are sparse even by Apple standards, saying simply, “This download includes the latest HP printing and scanning software for OS X.” It’s a safe assumption the update improves performance across the line.

Apple Music's Carpool Karaoke Will Feature Broader Range of Celebrities

· · Cool Stuff Found

BusinessInsider has a piece on the Carpool Karaoke series Apple is working on¬†for Apple Music. According to¬†Ben Winston, co-founder of series producer Fulwell 73 Productions, the show is going to open up guest spots to celebrities who aren’t musicians. He also said the deal came together because of Jimmy Iovine, and that CBS will limit Carpool Karaoke‘s exposure on The Late Late Show with James Corden to keep it fresh.¬†Carpool Karaoke could be a breakout hit for Apple. For context, the episode featuring Adele¬†(below)¬†has 124.6 million views on YouTube. Mr. Corden is executive producer of the Apple Music spinoff, but won’t be hosting it. There’s more in the full BI piece.

MOS Pack Backpack Charges Multiple Devices with One Plug

· · Cool Stuff Found

Here’s something cool for techies on the go, especially the back-to-school crowd. It’s called MOS Pack, a backpack with a built-in portable¬†charging¬†station for¬†all your gadgets. It has pockets for iPhones (or other smartphones), iPads, your passport, and a spot for a water bottle. On the charging side, the MOS pack doesn’t have a built-in battery‚ÄĒwhich you’d have to lug around‚ÄĒbut instead has a charging station that distributes power to all your gadgets from one plug. Inside it has a cable management system you feed to each gadget in each pockets, and you’re charging everything without having to pull them out. I thought it quite clever at $99.

I’m pretty darned nerdy. But I’ve never heard of the battery that’s been running for 176 years. Come on, that’s cool! It’s been ringing a bell all that time. Billions of time. We have only a loose idea of how it’s built, and we can’t figure it out without¬†destroying it. Anyway, Sally Page tells us all about it in this marvelous video. Also, ūüėć.
