Leica is a well-known camera brand, and today it released a five minute ad that celebrates photojournalism. Called ‘The Hunt’ it shows all of the stress, fear, drive, and life-threatening situations photojournalists face as they tell their stories. It was created by Brazilian agency F/Nazca Saatchi & Saatchi. We see scenes of an oppressive regime in China, an African warlord, conflict in the Middle East, and more. Although the photographers in the ad aren’t real, they do represent conditions that can happen in the real world.

Compelling. Haven stood toe-to-toe with threats, it made the hair on the back of my neck rise.
But here’s fun one. I had taken a day off and visited a camera store in Kansas City. They had a t-shirt that said, « Been there, shot that. » I love it! So I bought it. The next day I’m sitting at my computer on my day off and I get a call from the paper. There’s a sniper situation near the newspaper. Get down there, pick up the long lens and get over there asap. So I slip on my jeans and run out the door (with my Leica).
I show up at the paper and get the Tamron 300 2.8. Slap it on, jump in my car and drive five blocks to the scene. I get out and start approaching the police line, and realize, I’m wearing that t-shirt. Doh!
Luckily the cops knew me and we had a good laugh. Then I hid behind some trees and caught them bringing the buy out of his back door.
