Apple’s latest earnings showed a clear message. AirPods now sit at the center of Apple’s Wearables, Home and Accessories business. Even when dozens of products sit inside that category, one product can decide whether the whole group grows or falls.
Apple addressed this during its fiscal Q1 2026 earnings call, where leadership spoke about how AirPods Pro 3 performed during the quarter and how it affected the company’s financial results.
Tim Cook opened the discussion by highlighting strong customer interest in the newest AirPods model. He said, “The response to AirPods Pro 3 has been amazing. Customers are raving about the rich, immersive sound quality, the unmatched level of active noise cancellation, and the noticeably improved comfort that makes them effortless to wear.”
He also added that features like live translation now help users “connect across languages in real time and make everyday conversations feel more natural and accessible.”
AirPods Pro 3 and Apple’s revenue pressure
Kevan Parekh then explained how those strong sales still ran into supply issues. He said, “Wearables home and accessories revenue was $11.5 billion, down 2% year over year. During the quarter, we experienced constraints on the AirPods Pro 3, and we believe the overall category would have grown had it not been for these constraints.”
This statement stands out because the Wearables, Home and Accessories group includes far more than just AirPods. It covers Apple Watch, bands, AirTag, cases, cables, keyboards, mice, iPad accessories, HomePod, Studio Display, Apple Pencil, and even Vision Pro. Even with that long list, AirPods Pro 3 still had enough weight to decide whether the category stayed in decline.
A deeper problem for Apple’s accessory business
Parekh’s comment also revealed another important trend. Q1 2026 marked the tenth straight quarter where Apple’s Wearables, Home, and Accessories segment failed to grow. That makes AirPods even more important because they now act as the main engine that can lift the entire category.
Even though customers did not see major shipping delays at the end of 2025, Apple still faced limits on how many AirPods Pro 3 units it could deliver. That gap in supply kept billions of dollars in potential sales off the books.
The earnings call made one thing clear. AirPods no longer just support Apple’s ecosystem. They now carry one of its biggest businesses.
