Apple has acquired MotionVFX, a well-known developer of plugins, visual effects, and motion graphics tools widely used with Final Cut Pro. The move brings one of the most active developers in Apple’s professional video ecosystem directly into the company.
MotionVFX tools help editors add cinematic effects, transitions, titles, and templates quickly without building complex graphics from scratch, which explains why many YouTubers, filmmakers, and professional editors rely on them for daily production work.
The acquisition adds MotionVFX’s experience in motion graphics and plugin design to Apple’s professional video software team. MotionVFX has spent more than a decade building tools that integrate closely with Final Cut Pro and Apple Motion, while also supporting platforms such as DaVinci Resolve. Apple gains not only the company’s software portfolio but also the expertise behind tools that simplify advanced editing workflows for creators who want polished visuals with minimal setup.
MotionVFX confirmed the news on its website and shared a message about the transition and its future with Apple.
MotionVFX started in 2009 when founder Szymon Masiak launched the company in Warsaw, Poland. Since then, it has grown into one of the most prominent developers in the Final Cut Pro ecosystem. The company produces plugins, titles, transitions, and motion graphics packages designed for professional editors.
Several MotionVFX tools have gained strong popularity among creators. The mFilmLook plugin provides cinematic color grading and film emulation effects, while mO2 allows editors to place and animate 3D models directly inside Final Cut Pro and Apple Motion. MotionVFX also created Design Studio, a panel that lets users browse and install templates directly from within Final Cut Pro.
What this acquisition could mean
Apple now adds MotionVFX’s seventy employees to its team as part of the deal. Their experience with templates, effects, and 3D workflows could help Apple improve the built-in graphics tools inside Final Cut Pro and reduce the need for external plugins for certain tasks.
The acquisition also arrives soon after Apple introduced its Apple Creator Studio subscription bundle, which includes professional tools such as Final Cut Pro for $12.99 per month or $129 per year. MotionVFX’s technology and design experience fit closely with Apple’s recent focus on professional video production and creator tools.
MotionVFX products remain available through the company’s website and marketplace for now, and the company has not said whether those plugins will continue to sell independently in the long term.
