Apple will close its Fifth Avenue store in New York City overnight for three days next week to carry out maintenance on its famous glass cube entrance. The store usually stays open 24 hours a day, so this short closure stands out for visitors and locals who rely on it at all hours.
According to Apple’s website, the store will close at 10 p.m. local time from Monday, February 2, through Wednesday, February 4. It will reopen each morning at 8 a.m. during this period, which keeps daytime access mostly unchanged.
Apple described the work as routine care for the structure.
A source familiar with the matter said Apple plans to focus on the signature glass cube, which sits at street level and leads customers down into the underground retail space. This cube has become one of the most photographed retail entrances in the world.
The Fifth Avenue store opened in 2006 and has since served as a key location for Apple events. CEO Tim Cook and other top executives often appear there for major product launches, which adds to its global profile.
Over the years, Apple has used the glass cube as a visual landmark. The company has dressed it up with large Vision Pro outlines and colorful Siri lighting, turning the entrance into a marketing display as much as a doorway.
The brief overnight closure allows Apple to keep the cube in top condition while still welcoming customers during the day. For most visitors, the store will feel business as usual, just without its famous all-night access for a few nights.
