Apple Releases New Firmware Updates for Magic Keyboard on iPad

Apple Introduces Black Magic Keyboard for iPad Air

Apple has released new firmware updates for several Magic Keyboard models made for the iPad Pro and iPad Air. The update applies to keyboards designed for the M4 and M5 iPad Pro, as well as the M3 iPad Air. These updates roll out quietly in the background and focus on fixes rather than visible changes.

For the M4 and M5 iPad Pro Magic Keyboard, the firmware version moves to 0750.0220.0304, replacing 0680.0220.0301. The Magic Keyboard for the M3 iPad Air now runs 0400.0140.0303, up from 0350.0135.0303. Apple sells these keyboards in both 11-inch and 13-inch sizes, and the update covers all size variants.

Apple redesigned the Magic Keyboard in May 2024 alongside the launch of the M4 iPad Pro. The keyboard kept the floating cantilever design but added a row of function keys and a larger glass trackpad. Since then, firmware updates have remained rare, which suggests these releases focus on stability, security, and performance rather than new features.

Firmware Versions Included

  • Magic Keyboard for iPad Air 11-inch (M3): 1024.320.771
  • Magic Keyboard for iPad Air 13-inch (M3): 1024.320.771
  • Magic Keyboard for iPad Pro 11-inch (M4): 1872.544.772
  • Magic Keyboard for iPad Pro 13-inch (M4): 1872.544.772

As discovered by Aaron Perris, Apple has released these builds without publishing release notes.

Apple explains the process clearly: “Firmware updates are automatically delivered in the background while the Magic Keyboard is actively paired to a device running macOS, iOS, iPadOS, or tvOS.” There is no manual way to trigger an update.

To check the firmware version, open Settings, go to General, then About, and select Magic Keyboard. Apple has not shared details about changes, but any additions beyond bug fixes will likely surface over time.
