Tata Electronics has confirmed that it recently faced a cyberattack, after hackers claimed they had stolen and leaked confidential documents linked to Apple and Tesla, two major customers of the Indian manufacturing group.
The company said it detected a cybersecurity incident on some of its systems a few weeks ago and quickly activated its response protocols. Tata Electronics also said the attack did not affect its business operations, which continue to run normally across its units.
Hackers Claim Over 200,000 Files Were Stolen
Reuters reported that a group called World Leaks listed Tata Electronics data on its website, claiming the leak includes more than 200,000 files with a total size of over 630GB.
The leaked folders allegedly include Apple-related files with names such as “com.apple.factorydata,” along with documents linked to material specifications and component quality checks. One reported file carried Apple proprietary markings and appeared to describe inspection standards for iPhone circuit board parts.
The data also reportedly includes references to Hosur, where Tata operates its main iPhone assembly plant in Tamil Nadu. Security researchers who reviewed the files said the dump also contained emails, event logs and passport copies of employees, including foreign nationals.
Reuters said it could not independently confirm whether the leaked documents were authentic. However, the report added that Apple is reviewing the incident, while Tata Electronics has also received a ransom demand.
