Apple is getting closer to locking the design of its first foldable iPhone. A new report says the iPhone Fold will stand out from other foldables because of its wide inner display. When you open it, the screen will feel more like an iPad than a tall phone.
This design choice signals Apple’s focus on productivity and media use. Instead of a narrow, vertical layout, the unfolded display will spread wider across your hands. That change should make apps, videos, and multitasking feel more natural in landscape mode.
A wide inner display, not a tall one
The Information shared new details about the shape and size of the iPhone Fold’s screens. According to the report, the phone will use a 5.3-inch outer display and a 7.7-inch inner display. When you unfold the device, the inner screen will be wider than it is tall.

The report adds that the aspect ratio will resemble Apple’s largest iPads when viewed in landscape. This sets it apart from foldables made by Samsung and Google, which usually stretch taller when opened.
Camera placement and display
The same report says Apple plans to place a single selfie camera in the top-left corner of the inner display. Light and proximity sensors will sit alongside it, similar to what Apple plans for the iPhone 18 Pro.
Apple is also using a complex mix of specialty glass and materials from suppliers like Corning and SCHOTT. These materials aim to improve durability and reduce visible creases.
Apple expects to launch the foldable iPhone in September 2026.
