Ford Confirms Apple CarPlay Support Will Continue

CarPlay’s Two-Stack Widget Layout Returns in iOS 26.2 Beta

Ford has once again made its position clear on Apple CarPlay. The company plans to keep supporting it and sees customer choice as a core part of its in-car strategy. At the same time, Ford aims to develop its own software and introduce new platforms into the vehicle.

The message is simple. Drivers will not lose CarPlay access just because Ford is investing more in its own systems. The company believes many customers enjoy using CarPlay and expects that preference to continue across future models.

Speaking at the conference, Sherry House, Ford’s chief financial officer, said the company is “passionate” about giving customers options. She explained that Ford will “continue to give the customers choice” when it comes to Apple CarPlay and added that it is a product customers “really enjoy.”

CarPlay stays, Gemini arrives

Alongside CarPlay, Ford plans to introduce Google’s Gemini platform in 2026, once it becomes available for vehicles. House said Ford wants to bring in strong external platforms while also improving what it builds in-house. The goal is to strike a balance between familiar tools and deeper integration into Ford’s own ecosystem.

More focus on native apps

Ford is also pushing harder on native apps inside its vehicles. According to House, newer Ford apps have already seen engagement rise by about 20 points compared to earlier versions of SYNC 4. She described this approach as “bringing the best from the outside” and combining it with what Ford knows about its customer base.

That strategy points to a mixed future. Ford will keep Apple CarPlay for drivers who want it, add new AI platforms like Gemini, and continue refining its own software. For now, the company says choice remains the priority, not forcing customers into a single system.
