Apple released iOS 26.2 beta 1 for developers, and it quietly changes how users navigate the Apple News app. The update focuses on making popular sections easier to reach, simplifying how you move around the app without changing its overall look.
Over time, Apple News has evolved beyond headlines. It now includes puzzles, food recipes, and detailed sports and politics coverage. The latest beta builds on that by adding direct links to these sections right at the top of the Today screen.
New Layout for Quick Access
The redesigned Apple News home screen now features four quick links at the top:
- Sports
- Puzzles
- Politics
- Food
Each shortcut opens its section instantly, cutting down extra taps. The Sports category, which was previously placed in the bottom tab bar, has now moved to the top row. This change makes room for a new tab called Following, giving users faster access to topics and outlets they track regularly.
Simpler Navigation and Search
The Following tab replaces what was once hidden under the Search button. When you tap Search now, you’ll find a cleaner interface with suggestions similar to those in Apple Music and Apple TV. The goal is to make finding stories, channels, and topics faster and more intuitive.
While the design remains familiar, these updates make navigation smoother and highlight the growing range of content within Apple News. For users who open the app daily, the new layout makes a noticeable difference in how quickly they can reach their favorite sections.
