Apple has rolled out the iOS 26.5 Release Candidate for iPhone, marking the final testing stage before the public update arrives. If you’ve been tracking the beta cycle, this build is usually the same version that ships to everyone within a few days.
This update does not try to overhaul the system. Instead, it focuses on small but practical changes, especially inside Maps and accessory connectivity, while quietly preparing features Apple plans to expand later.
How to update
If you are enrolled in the beta program, you can install the release candidate right now:
- Open Settings
- Tap General
- Select Software Update
- Wait for iOS 26.5 RC to appear
- Tap Download and Install
- Enter your passcode and follow the on-screen steps
Make sure your iPhone is connected to Wi-Fi and has enough battery before starting the update.
What’s new in iOS 26.5
iOS 26.5 is a refinement update. It introduces a mix of visible tweaks and behind-the-scenes groundwork. Apple Maps gets the biggest attention with Suggested Places, which recommends nearby spots based on trends and your activity, along with early support for ads that will appear later this year. The update also improves how iPhones connect with Apple accessories by allowing Bluetooth pairing over USB for devices like Magic Keyboard and Mouse, which makes setup faster and more reliable. There are also region-specific changes, especially in the EU, where Apple continues testing interoperability features. Alongside this, Apple is making smaller system improvements such as better accessory handling and general performance tuning. Overall, this release feels like a stability-focused update that prepares the system for bigger changes coming next.
Looking ahead, Apple is expected to introduce iOS 27 in early beta next month during WWDC, which will likely bring more noticeable changes.
We will update you if any new features are discovered in this release. If you have already installed iOS 26.5 RC, let us know your experience in the comments.
