iOS 27 to Let You Create Wallet Passes From Any QR Code, Says Report

Apple is preparing a practical change to the Wallet app in iOS 27 that solves a problem many iPhone users deal with daily, where tickets and memberships stay stuck in third-party apps instead of showing up in one place. The upcoming “Create a Pass” feature lets you turn almost any QR code into a proper Wallet pass, which means you no longer depend on whether a service supports Apple’s system or not.

According to Bloomberg, Apple built this tool to close a clear gap in how Wallet works today, where users can store cards and supported passes but still struggle with unsupported QR-based entries.

“The capability is designed for situations where, for example, a gym or concert app provides a QR code for entry but doesn’t support the Wallet app. With the new tool, users can import that code and create their own pass.”

That single change shifts control from the developer to the user, which is the key difference here.

How the Create a Pass feature works

You will find the new option inside the Wallet app under the “+” button, which already handles adding cards. From there, you can either scan a QR code with your iPhone camera or create a pass manually, and the system will convert it into a structured digital ticket that sits alongside your existing cards and passes.

Apple is also testing multiple templates to keep things organized instead of dumping everything into a single format.

“Users can create a pass from scratch or rely on the iPhone’s camera to take a QR code and turn it into a digital ticket. The feature includes customization tools for styles, images, colors and text fields, allowing users to tailor the information displayed on each pass.”

The templates include standard, membership, and event styles, each designed for different use cases like gyms, concerts, or general access passes.

Right now, many gyms, local events, and smaller services rely on basic QR codes that never integrate with Wallet, which forces you to open separate apps or search through emails at the last moment. This feature removes that friction and brings everything into one place, which is where Wallet has always worked best.

Apple will announce iOS 27 at WWDC on June 8, and this feature stands out because it fixes a real usage problem instead of adding something abstract, so the next step is to see how widely people start using it once it rolls out.
