iPhone 17 Prices Could Rise Soon as Apple Faces Higher Chip Costs

Apple could raise iPhone 17 prices soon as memory and storage chip costs continue to climb across the tech industry. The expected iPhone 17 price hike comes after CEO Tim Cook said Apple can no longer fully absorb higher component costs, especially as AI companies keep buying more chips for data centers.

The Wall Street Journal (via macrumors) reported that Cook described the current memory shortage as rare and severe, saying he has not seen anything like it in more than 40 years. His comments have fueled speculation that Apple will pass some of these costs to customers.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman believes Apple’s price increases are likely “imminent” and not something the company will hold until the iPhone 18 launch later this year. He also suggested Apple could time the change around its Back to School sale, which usually gives students and teachers extra benefits on Macs and iPads.

Current iPhone 17 prices are:

  • iPhone 17e: from $599
  • iPhone 17: from $799
  • iPhone Air: from $999
  • iPhone 17 Pro: from $1,099
  • iPhone 17 Pro Max: from $1,199

Prices for iPads and Macs could also increase if Apple applies the same cost adjustment across more products. For now, Apple has not confirmed new pricing, but the timing of Cook’s comments suggests buyers may want to watch closely before making a purchase.
