Apple has officially released the first developer beta of macOS 26.6, just weeks after the public rollout of macOS 26.5. The new beta arrives as Apple prepares for WWDC and the upcoming debut of macOS 27, so this update is expected to focus mainly on stability improvements, bug fixes, and behind-the-scenes refinements rather than major new features.
The release build number for macOS 26.6 developer beta 1 is 25G5028f. Early testing suggests Apple is continuing to polish the Tahoe experience ahead of its next major macOS release.
macOS 26.5 itself was a fairly small update. It added support for powering off or restarting select desktop Macs using assistive accessories, while also bringing cross-platform additions like end-to-end encrypted RCS support, Suggested Places in Apple Maps, and Live Activities support for third-party accessories in Europe.

What’s new
So far, Apple has not announced any major user-facing additions in macOS 26.6 developer beta 1. Based on the first round of testing, the update appears to be a maintenance release focused on system performance, stability, and bug fixes ahead of WWDC.
We are still testing the beta and digging through the update. If Apple has added hidden features, interface changes, or new system improvements, we’ll update coverage once more details are discovered.
If you’ve already installed the update, let us know your experience in the comments.
