Apple has rolled out the third public beta of macOS Tahoe 26.4 for people enrolled in the public beta program, and it arrives about a week after public beta 2.
This update matters if you want to test upcoming macOS changes early, but you should still expect bugs, battery drain, and app issues that can break everyday workflows, so a current backup helps before you install any beta on your main Mac.
The latest public beta uses build number 25E5223i, and it matches the current developer beta build.
How to update in short steps
- Open System Settings
- Click General
- Click Software Update
- Click the info button next to Beta Updates, then pick the macOS Tahoe Public Beta track (if you have not already)
- Download and install macOS Tahoe 26.4 Public Beta 3 when it appears
Changes in macOS Tahoe 26.4 Public Beta 3
This beta keeps focus on practical tweaks rather than big new features, with a mix of quality fixes and a few changes you will notice right away.
A standout addition is a built-in battery charge cap that lets you set a maximum charge level anywhere from 80% to 100%, which helps if you keep a MacBook plugged in for long stretches.
You also get Safari’s compact tab bar option again, which brings back a layout some users missed in earlier Tahoe builds.
On Apple silicon Macs, the system now shows warnings for apps that rely on Rosetta, tied to the plan to end Rosetta support after macOS 27, so this beta starts nudging users and developers to move away from Intel-only code paths.
If the window resize pointer not matching rounded window corners has annoyed you, this beta also includes a fix for that behavior.
Let us know in the comments if you spotted anything else new in public beta 3.
