Microsoft now lets you share your Mac screen inside Teams using macOS’s own sharing system. This update gives you a cleaner and more familiar experience, especially if you rely on your Mac for work calls. It also reduces those awkward moments when you ask someone if they can actually see your screen.
This feature feels more natural because it uses Apple’s built-in sharing tools. As a result, the interface matches the rest of macOS, and the overall flow feels smoother when you switch between apps. You also get a faster transition when you pick a window or your full screen.
Microsoft explains that this update aims to make sharing feel intuitive for long-time Mac users, new Teams adopters, and anyone who values a simple sharing workflow. The company says this approach “improves the Teams meeting experience on Mac.”
How to enable native screen sharing
- Open Teams on your Mac.
- Go to Settings and choose General.
- Toggle on the option called “Use macOS content sharing.”
- Join a meeting and select Share.
- Choose your screen or a specific window.
Once you do this, macOS controls the sharing panel, and the interface looks native. Teams follows along in the background, but the sharing bar comes directly from your Mac.
Microsoft notes that “application restart is not required after enabling.” This makes setup quick for anyone who wants to switch to the new experience during the day.
Limitations and availability
There is one major limitation. You cannot give or take control when you use the Mac native experience. Everything else works as expected, so you can still present slides, demo apps, or walk someone through a workflow.
You also need access to specific preview channels. This feature only works if you are part of the Teams Public Preview or the Microsoft 365 Targeted release. You must also use the Teams client for Mac. Finally, your IT admin must allow preview features for your account.
Microsoft’s product team says it built this update to “increase security and streamline workflows,” while making the sharing process feel more polished for Mac users.
