Apple’s latest 140W USB-C Power Adapter, which ships with the new 16-inch MacBook Pro models powered by the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, has introduced a small design change, and that change now causes compatibility issues with Apple’s own extension accessories in certain regions.
Users who recently purchased the updated MacBook Pro have started noticing that the included charger no longer works with the Power Adapter Extension Cable, even though Apple still lists it as compatible on its product page.
Apple kept the removable plug design, but it quietly redesigned the internal male connector that attaches to the extension cable, and the new connector now has a slimmer, pill-shaped form instead of the earlier modified C7 style, which means the existing extension cable with its older female connector no longer fits properly.
As a result, users cannot use the extension cable or even the discontinued World Travel Adapter Kit with this updated charger.
Reports confirm that this redesigned charger has appeared in countries like Australia and China, while users in other regions still receive the older compatible version, so the rollout remains inconsistent, and Apple has not clarified which markets are affected or whether standalone 140W adapters follow the same change.
