Plex has announced a major price increase for its Lifetime Plex Pass subscription, and the jump is much bigger than many users expected. Starting July 1, 2026, the Lifetime Plex Pass will cost $749.99, which is a $500 increase over the current $249.99 price. The company says the new pricing reflects the “real, ongoing value” of the software and the long-term investment required to keep building Plex.
The move comes just over a year after Plex increased the Lifetime Plex Pass price from $120 to $250 in March 2025. Existing Lifetime Plex Pass users will not lose any features or benefits, while monthly and yearly subscription prices will stay the same at $7 per month and $70 per year.
Plex explained the decision in an official blog post.
“We’ve considered eliminating the Lifetime Plex Pass in the past, given that recurring subscriptions help us sustain long-term development, but we know it’s still a valuable option for many in our community. So instead of retiring it, we’re keeping it available at a price that reflects the real, ongoing value of the software we’re committed to building and maintaining for years to come.”
Plex Pass pricing changes
Here’s what is changing on July 1, 2026:
- Lifetime Plex Pass: increasing from $249.99 to $749.99
- Monthly Plex Pass: staying at $6.99 per month
- Annual Plex Pass: staying at $69.99 per year
- Current Lifetime Plex Pass users: no changes to benefits or access
Plex says users still have time to buy the Lifetime plan at the current price before the new pricing goes live at 12:01 a.m. UTC on July 1, 2026.
Improvements to Downloads
Plex says it is improving downloads with features like grouping episodes by show and automatic downloads for new episodes, which should make offline viewing easier for users who travel often or watch content away from home.
The company is also bringing playlist creation and editing tools directly into its mobile apps, which removes the need to manage playlists from the web interface.
Plex confirmed that music and photo library support will return to the redesigned mobile apps and TV apps after users repeatedly requested the features back through forums and surveys.
Plex is adding NFO metadata support, which has been one of the most requested features among advanced media server users who manage detailed custom libraries.
The company also plans to bring server and library management tools from app.plex.tv to mobile devices and some TV apps, making remote management much easier.
Plex says future updates will include dialog boosting, loudness normalization, additional transcoding improvements, and IPv6 support as it continues improving streaming quality across devices.
