Samsung updated its SmartThings app for iPhone users, introducing new features that make it easier to manage smart devices from both Apple and Samsung ecosystems. The company said the update aims to help homes that use a mix of Galaxy and Apple devices stay better connected.
The refreshed app now supports Siri Shortcuts for SmartThings routines. This means you can launch automations with simple voice commands through Siri. For example, you can create a “Good Morning” routine that turns on the lights, opens blinds, and starts your coffee machine, or a “Leaving Home” routine that locks doors, turns off lights, and activates the security system.
Samsung also enhanced support for Apple Watch. You can now access device groups created in the SmartThings app directly from your wrist. Apple Watch users can view all connected devices, send commands, and trigger routines on the go.
Siri Shortcut and Watch Support
With the update, SmartThings routines feel more like Apple’s own HomeKit automations. You can set a “Goodnight” command to dim the lights, close blinds, and adjust the thermostat before bed. Samsung said this feature “bridges the gap between Galaxy and Apple devices,” creating smoother control for users across platforms.
The SmartThings app already included Live Activities, but Samsung has expanded this feature. You can now see up to five recently used devices at a glance, such as air purifiers, robot vacuums, and air conditioners.
A Step Toward Unified Smart Homes
Samsung described the update as part of its broader effort to improve smart home interoperability. With standards like Thread and Matter making connected devices work more reliably across brands, this SmartThings release continues that trend.
The SmartThings app is available for free on the App Store.
