Trump Announces Apple-Intel Deal to Manufacture Chips in America

Apple May Bring Intel Back as a Chipmaker for Future iPhones and Macs

Apple and Intel have reportedly agreed to work together on chips for future Apple devices, with Intel expected to manufacture some Apple-designed chips at its fabrication sites in the United States.

President Trump confirmed the partnership on Truth Social, saying Apple will work with Intel to design and build chips in America. The statement follows earlier reports that Intel had started producing legacy Apple chips for older iPhone, iPad, and Mac models.

The deal does not mean Intel will suddenly replace TSMC for Apple’s newest and most powerful chips, since TSMC still leads the industry in advanced chip manufacturing and handles Apple’s high-end silicon at a massive scale.

For now, Intel’s role will likely focus on older or lower-end Apple products, where Apple can add another manufacturing partner without risking the performance targets of its latest iPhone, iPad, and Mac chips.

The move still matters for Apple because it gives the company more supply chain flexibility and strengthens its American manufacturing story at a time when chip production has become a major political issue.

Intel also gained from the announcement, with its stock reportedly rising 9% in pre-market trading after Trump’s statement.

Overall, the Apple and Intel chip partnership gives Apple another manufacturing option, while Intel gets a major vote of confidence from one of the world’s biggest technology companies.
