The new CASETIFY CONSCIOUS collection offers eco-friendly phone cases that you can compost. Coming in a variety of colors and designs, they’re made with bamboo, corn starch, and pellet material so the case will safely break down into carbon dioxide, water and other natural minerals after 180 days. These eco-friendly phone cases are US$45.
AirPods are hugely popular but, let’s be honest, the charging case is hardly the most chic item Apple has ever released. Accessories maker NOMAD may have solved that problem. On Thursday, they are going to release the Rugged Case – a fully leather outer case for AirPods. Available in brown or black, you can put the AirPod charging case intro the Rugged Case, providing extra protection and a little bit more style. Priced at $29.95, the Rugged Case is available to pre-order now. Distribution will commence on Thursday, 15 November.
Catalyst is still one of the only companies to offer a case for your AirPods, and now have won a CES Innovation Award for it. They were showing off the case and its new colors at CES Unveiled on Sunday. With most people just now having finally gotten AirPods, I figured this was a good time to call this a Cool Stuff Found for you all.
I saw this on Instagram last night and thought it was neat. It’s a wrap for MacBook made from real wood from a company called Cover-Up. The wraps are sustainably-sourced, and just like the WÜS Life iPhone cases I covered yesterday, each Cover-Up is effectively unique because it’s made from real wood. Each wrap is laser cut and hand-sanded, and they’re designed to be peeled away when you want to remove them. There are more than a dozen woods to choose from, including Rosewood, Redwood Burl (that is lovely as), Bubinga, Maple, Cedar, Bamboo, and more. It’s $49 for a Top Skin, and $94 for a Top and Bottom Skin. They make wraps for iPhones and iPads, as well as some Samsung and Google Android devices.

The wood is layered, treated, and coated with a protective layer, while the stone is attached to a layer of adhesive, another layer of fiberglass, and then a background material.

For those who are fans of the Rokform iPhone cases, the Rugged and Crystal cases for iPhone X are on pre-order and ship on November 3.
Check out the Stickbox, an iPhone case with a built-in selfie stick. I just took a vacation where I took a ton of photos, and I’d loved to have had one of these for the trip. The selfie stick itself folds into a rectangle that fits in a recessed panel on the back of the case. A hinge on the end allows you to fold your iPhone out for taking pic. There’s a Bluetooth trigger built into the handle for triggering your camera, and the case has a kickstand mode, too. Hey, the whole thing is a clever idea. Originally funded on Kickstarter in 2016, Stickbox is available in Black, White, and Rose through the company’s site and on Amazon for $39.99.
Pad & Quill announced this week the Oxford case for iPad Pro 10.5-inch. I love leather cases, and I’m a big fan of Pad & Quill’s designs, and I think this case looks good. It’s made from American full-grain leather and it’s stitched with parachute-grade stitching. It also includes a built-in Apple Pencil holder, so yay! Lastly, it will serve as a stand and is compatible with Apple’s Smart keyboard. Oh, and it has a 25-year warranty. 😂 It’s $129.95.
The Slate wrap from Slickwraps crossed my desk a few days ago, and the thing is that it stuck with me. I find it compelling. Attractive. It’s a study in textured blacks, and I do like black cases and covers for my devices (YMMV). Slickwraps has been knocking it out of the part with their wraps lately, too. In any event, the company is calling this a limited edition, and say that it protects from minor scratches and small drops. They have them for iPhones, several Android devices (if that’s your thing), and even a MacBook. The ones for smartphone are priced at US$24.95.
Slickwraps has a new wrap for your iPhone that kicks it beige. Well, plus 6 colors. Whatever, it’s old school, with Apple’s original logo and a beige color harkening back to the Apple ][. They’re versions for iPhone 5S/SE to iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, all priced at $19.84. See what they did there? The wrap comes with a front and back piece, each of which adheres to your iPhone and is designed to be removable. I’ve no idea if this is licensed, but I’ve a hunch that if you want one of these wraps you should get it sooner, rather than later. Slickwraps called it a limited run, too. As a huge fan of the original Apple logo, I think these are the bee’s knees.
Check out Loopy Cases for iPhone. The short version is that they have a loop for your finger on the back. You can use the loop for more secure one-handed operation, walking around, or as a poor-man’s stand. I was turned on to Loopy Cases by a friend who’s always dropping her iPhone. She thought it was just the thing to stop dropping her device, and watching the video (below), I agree. The case has reinforced bumpers in case you drop it anyway, but it’s main purpose is to hold the loop itself. There are Loopy Cases for iPhone 6/6 Plus, iPhone 7/7 Plus, and a handful of Samsung devices if that’s your thing. They’re priced at $35, with free shipping in the U.S. for orders more than $40 ($50 for international orders).
Twelve South announced Friday that its SurfacePad leather wrap case is now available for iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. I like minimalist leather cases for my iPhones and iPads and I’ve long thought the SurfacePad line is good looking. The back attaches to your iPhone, and the inside of the front cover is lined with microfiber. It has two slots for cards on the inside, too, if that’s your thing. It’s available in Jet Black, Camel and Midnight Blue, for $39.95, and it’s shipping now.
This week Dr. Mac looks at three new iPhone cases he likes and recommends and one iPhone case that was more fragile than the iPhone it was meant to protect.
Still need to use analog headphones with your iPhone 7? Ditch that puny little adapter and kill two birds with one polycarbonate stone with the Incipio OX case, an iPhone case that brings the 3.5mm headphone jack back to your favorite smartphone. The OX looks like a normal slim hardshell case, except for a bit of extra length at the bottom. There, you’ll find both a Lightning and 3.5mm audio jack, powered by an internal DAC. The Incipio OX will be available for both the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus in the first quarter of 2017 in Black, Forest, and Purple color options starting at $59.99.
