Apple will bring Live Translation to AirPods users in the European Union by the end of 2025. The update will likely arrive with iOS 26.2 in mid-December, as first reported by German outlet Macerkopf.
Apple had originally planned to launch the feature globally, but delayed the rollout in the EU due to compliance requirements under the Digital Markets Act. The company confirmed that the delay was caused by additional development work to meet these regulations.
The feature uses Apple Intelligence and advanced audio processing to translate conversations in real time. Users can listen and respond naturally, even when they speak different languages. Apple said the function works across Messages, FaceTime, and Phone apps.
Supported Devices and Languages
To use Live Translation, users need an iPhone that supports Apple Intelligence starting with the iPhone 15 Pro and AirPods Pro 2, AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation, or AirPods Pro 3. AirPods Max will not support the feature.
At launch, Live Translation will support several languages, including English (US and UK), Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), German, French, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish.
Apple confirmed that developers can already test the feature, and members of the Apple Beta Program in the EU will soon be able to try it. Once released, it will make real-time multilingual conversations easier across Europe.
