Apple started the iPadOS 26.2 developer beta earlier this week. The first public beta is now available for anyone who wants to test new features before the final release. The update focuses on polish, small interface tweaks, and a few smart app upgrades that improve daily use.
What’s new in iPadOS 26.2
Sleep tracking gets a clearer scoring system. Apple replaces the “Excellent” label with “Very High” and tightens the thresholds so results feel more accurate. This aligns the Health experience across devices.
Podcasts add automatic chapters and timed links. Episodes can now include auto-generated chapter markers and links to referenced shows or content, which makes long episodes easier to navigate. Creators can opt out.
News gains faster access to popular sections with new quick links inside the app. You jump into topics with fewer taps and get a cleaner layout that matches iOS 26’s design language.
Freeform supports tables for structured boards, which helps with planning and lightweight documentation. Passwords improve the management of excluded websites. Accessibility adds a Flash for Alerts option that flashes the screen for notifications. These small changes add up across the system.
How to install the public beta
Back up your iPad. Use iCloud or a computer so you can restore if needed.
On your iPad, sign in with your Apple ID and enroll in the Apple Beta Software Program. Open Settings, go to General, then Software Update. Tap Beta Updates and select iPadOS Public Beta. Download and install. Your iPad will restart to complete the setup.
Should you try it
Public betas are more stable than early developer builds, but bugs and battery drain still happen. Install on a secondary device if you rely on your iPad for work. You can switch back by removing the beta option in Software Update and restoring a backup if needed.
