Apple Pulls New MagSafe Battery Firmware Update After Brief Release

Apple shipped a fresh firmware update for the MagSafe Battery made for the iPhone Air. The rollout surprised many users because this accessory rarely gets any updates. Apple pulled the update soon after release, and the company has not said when it will return.

The update briefly appeared with version 99.0, replacing the older 91.0 build. You usually see frequent firmware changes for products like AirPods, but this MagSafe Battery rarely gets attention. Even so, Apple released it quietly and then took it down without warning.

Aaron Perris spotted the update first in a post on X. His note confirmed the new firmware numbers and helped users confirm the short release window. As people waited for official notes, Apple removed the firmware from circulation. The company has not explained what the update tried to fix or improve.

How These Accessory Updates Work

Accessory firmware installs in the background while you use the device. You cannot trigger it manually. So when Apple removes an update like this, users simply stop seeing it appear. Last month Apple also updated several other accessories, including the Magic Keyboard with USB-C, Magic Trackpad, and even one of its power adapters.

Apple usually issues these updates to improve compatibility or stability. For now, iPhone Air owners must wait until Apple re-releases the updated MagSafe Battery firmware.
